The security architecture in Europe from a Baltic perspective

Europe's security is currently very fragile and exposed to considerable dangers. We are therefore particularly pleased that this year's speaker is Prof. Dr. oec. Inese Vaidere, MEP from Latvia.

As we do every year, we would like to invite you to the Consular Corps' annual reception, where we will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and thank you for our continued cooperation.

Unfortunately, the geopolitical situation has not changed for the better in the past year. The elections in the United States, but also in our immediate neighbour Austria, suggest that we can expect growing difficulties in relations with the United States, but also for the processes within the European Union. Particularly with regard to Europe, the similarity of political developments is reminiscent of the 1920s and 1930s.

The ongoing war in Ukraine and Russia's increasingly obvious hybrid warfare should actually have brought the Western democracies closer together. But national self-interest is prevailing, and the Trump/Musk duo is apparently pursuing a ‘divide and rule’ strategy in order to be able to exert even greater pressure on individual states and thus also to weaken the European Union as a whole.
