the transport turnaround is an important element of climate protection. According to the federal government's traffic forecast for 2051, freight transport in Germany will increase by 46% to 990 tonne-kilometres by the middle of the century. The share of truck transport will grow disproportionately, rail transport by a third, while inland waterway transport will stagnate. The reason for this is the decline in the mass transport of coal, coke, ores and mineral oil.
On the other hand, inland navigation is an environmentally friendly means of transport, could play an important role in trimodal freight transport and contribute to crisis security with its capacities. Currently, the share of inland navigation is increasing due to grain exports from Ukraine.
What needs to be done to position inland navigation for the future?
We want to explore this question at a parliamentary evening together with the DWSV German Waterways and Shipping Association Rhine-Main-Danube and the BDB Federal Association of German Inland Navigation.
Note: Three associations are inviting to this event, seating capacity is limited. Consideration after receipt of registration.
